IntroductionThe JMBC has many very good contacts with other organisations, for instance with the Burgers Program at the University of Maryland, ERCOFTAC and the 3TU-Federation.
With the Burgers Program there have been exchanges of scientists at the level of professors and PhD-students. PhD-students of the JMBC also participate in a Turbulence School organised in 2010 by the Burgers Program.
The JMBC is the pilot centre of ERCOFTAC (European Research Cooperation on Flow, Turbulence and Combustion). Members of the research school participate in the Special Interest Groups of ERCOFTAC. They also contribute significantly to the management of ERCOFTAC (for instance prof. Oliemans has been the president and dr. Duursma the treasurer).
In The Netherlands the three technical universities at Delft, Eindhoven and Twente have formed the 3TU-Federation. This federation has an educational part and a research part. The research part is called the Institute of Science and Technology (IST). In the IST five Centres of Competence have been appointed. The JMBC together with EM (Engineering Mechanics: the research school for solid mechanics) form one of these centres under the name Fluid and Solid Mechanics. This centre has received considerable sponsoring from the IST to start with the formation of five new chairs.
